I love my neighbors (not!)

So since we've moved into this apartment, we've had nothing but problems with the neighbors. Whether its constant noise or gossiping or snubbing us when we say "bonjour", it's just not a good ambiance in this building. A great example of how unfriendly these people are happened yesterday morning.

Saturday night, we had a going away party for one of our friends who is going back home to South Africa. There were moments during the evening when we broke into song and laughed pretty loudly so I understand that we were not the most quiet of people. However, I made it a point to make everyone go out into town by midnight. That's reasonable right? I mean it was a Saturday night, no one here works Sundays, so they can sleep in the next day. That's what I thought but apparently not everyone thought that way. Bright and early at 8:30am the next morning (I had gone to bed at 3:30am) we get a taste of classical french music blasting on the other side of the wall, accordion and all. Our lovely elderly neighbor decided to take her revenge on us by blasting the music as loud as possible to wake us up. And it lasted for 2 hours!!! She then decided to demonstrate to us that she really wasn't happy by banging a few things against the wall and slamming the door several times. All at 8:30am on a Sunday morning. Me having a slight hang over the next day, I was not a happy camper at all.

What a miserable old hag. I can't wait to leave this apartment in July!

Has anyone else had any similar experiences with crabby neighbors?

I think midnight is a reasonable time for a saturday, especially for a special occasion, if you arent partying every night! I have had friends who have popped a note in their neighbours apartments doors to warn them they would get noisy and that seemed to help.

Some people you just cant please!

Sorry, I know it must have been awful, but I had to laugh!

And we're talking about elderly French ladies here... midnight is normal for the rest of the world, 6:30 PM is normal for them. Agree with parlezvouskiwi, you just can't please some people! And clearly, you shouldn't even try. Next time keep the party going alllll night long. At least that way you'll still be awake when the accordian starts going at 8:30 AM

good idea to let the party go all night long, but I think we would have our tires slashed the next day! lol
